When writing the essay, I was a bit overwhemled with my topic once I really got to writing. I felt as the topic itself wasn't a broad enough. I was a good topic to begin with but once going into depth, it felt like I have already made all the key points. If I knew the truth defintion of a subculture at the beginning of the school yr...I would of picked another subculture within a heart beat. I thought I would just pick an topic I knew alot about which was hip hop. I think I knew a little to much about the topic and really couldnt explored how I wanted with a topic. I think i had a hard time cause once I found a article on the site, I would go back the next days to look at it again if your be gone. So when it was time for me to write, I has to use the info they put up that day. Some days they happened to have good toipcs and post, then the next day it seemed just like gossip in the hip hop world. So with dealing with that along was a bit frustrating.

I think since blogging will be used for future students, they will find it somewhat useful. When you have other people expressing how they feel about the topics being discussed and it challenge your thinking process. It's good to read others options because then it's like they are right too and they say things you would of never thought of to say. Also, I thoguht that fact that people can disagree was a good way to start heated dicussions. The person just has to be a explaintion on why they dont agree with you.

Vagabonds are people that aren't subject to change such as grandparents, people with authism, and etc
Tourist are people willing to explore and looks forward to change

Vagabonds seem to be stuck in a certain mind frame. They think change is BAD and don't want to take part in any changes. It can be anything from a nail polish, to a certain brand of clothing or makeup, a destination part in the US, to the same automoile company their car is from, to the food they intake. Honestly, I think everyone has a little vagabond in them, it's just depends on the level you take it to. Tourists to me are free spririted. Willing to go where life takes them anddeal with the rest later. Tourist are everywhere in the world exploring because they simply want to explore and see the difference they are missing. I think alot of americans go outside the US because it's more it see and land to view that the US have but not as a gradtitude as third world countries have. The buildings that Spain has that are soooo unique, or the tropical food the islands have. It's goes the same way with people coming to travel in the USA!

Race and Gender  did play a role in mobility once upon a time. Time has changed and we see some many different races and faces in politics now. We got out 1st black president, now we just waiting on our 1st woman!

Reading Blog #9

After reading Chapter 9 thoroughly, please respond to the ideas presented in the chapter and apply them to your own experiences. Please get as specific as possible and use terminology from the chapter correctly. I am looking for a clear application here. Two full paragraphs.

In the chapter, I could really relate to the vaction section. Being a city girl, my parents always took us on expensive vactions as a kid. Staying in the best hotels, during the top adventures was what we was raised on. My mom always said " Why go out the country/ or state and not really view it". She meant spending money. The only times I really had a nature vaction was when I went camping with the girl scouts. But we never stayed in tee pee's or anything like that, we stayed in cabin hotels and would do the outdoor adventures during the day. I'm not really into nature and I don't well with bugs...Im afarid of spiders and they are harmless. I guess when you never been placed into a certain environment, you tend to act a certain way. When I travel to pamana over the summer, we people where sleeping in hammicks like nobody business and it was all type of bugs over them. The bugs only came out at night so either I was in the room or I walking with bug repellent

Like I said above, I live in the city but I tend to travel to all parts in MI. One thing I have noticed that the gas prices are cheaper in the city than in the outskirts of the city. I go visit my friend in that stay in the subarbs of West Bloomfield Hills and gas is almost 5-10 cent more than the city. I always thought smaller cities and townships have the cheaper prices because they are less populated than the bigger cities. Traveling to North Carolina, we came across town that consisted of one dirt rd, maybe 2 at the most traffic lights and a small diner. I don't recall the prices but the food was lovely considering it wasnt a huge city

I pictures I choosen represnt counterculture and subculture. I pick a picture of the civil rights movement because they rebelled against what everyone wanted them to do. The made a statement and wanted to be heard and what better to do it nation wide and make the 4 o clock news. African Americans was killed, placed in jail, beaten, treated unfairly against other races all because their skin color. They was working against the mainstream.
I put the MJ community as a subculture because people dress they him, love him dearly and was shocked when he passed away last year. These are what you call "true" fans. The subculture is a postive one because who didn't love MJ. There was alot of Mj costumes this year and last year for halloween.

n 1-2 full paragraphs, analyze how Bamboozled might be applied to Ch. 7. Use terminology taken from the chapter and be hyper aware of the language used (the film may use offensive language, but in your blog you will NOT--you ain't Spike Lee and this class is not run by democratic rule--think of it as a benevolent dictatorship :P).

Bamboozled was a film about race, social class, hegemomy, sterotypes, racial slurs, and language. It was trying to represents ethnic groups by the sterotypes placed upon them. It had black men drinking "40 ounce" beers and pants sagging to the ground. It showed older apartements that looked like the health department should of thrown down a long time ago. It had a colored man that was educated with his degree's from top school and what people would call as a white accent. Then you had the white boss that calls himself a nigga and say's I'm more blacker than you and I'm white. I would say this film had alot of identity and minority  groups issues. I feel Spike Lee tried to put some humor into the film so people wouldn't get upset but at the same time show the importance on racism and how it still exist in our society.

Well I went to BGSU for 3 1/2 years and this is my first semester at owens. Considering the 2  colleges, all my teachers were all the same really minus the age differance. My teachers at BGSU was different and age, so that all depended on how the class was thought. My younger teachers who was students still themselves made the class fun, intersting, and made it worth coming to. They would sit the the desk and really engage with the students, instead of making it one big BORING lecture. They would tell you about things going on around campus, things that's happen in toledo and so forth. Young teachers let you know its ok to fun and but still remind you student comes first. The older teachers would bore me to death, have all the stricts rules like were still in high school and expected so much when it's a low level course. I think older teacher sticks to the rules: You are here for a reason, do what you need to do...blah blah blah. I think they expect more out of you and thats way some push you the way they do. They want you do get a degree and make a differance in the world, instead of texting your life away or not just coming to class because you have to. In a sense, I'll appreciate older teachers values and ethnics in the long run, but young teachers are cool too.

Put together a collection of familiar logos that you encounter on a regular basis, whether in media, on your computer, on products around the home, even on the clothing you and others wear. Choose one or two as case studies of how logos work as forms of communication and persuasion. Some ideas you might consider:
Do the images represent real objects (like an apple) or are they more abstract (like a swoosh)?
  • Where do you encounter these logos most often? why do you think the creators of the logos deploy them where they do?
  • how have people adopted and adapted these logos as part of their own wardrobe, decor, or other aspects of their identity? What are the attractions of logos as fashion statements or markers of status? who is using whom in these transactions, in your opinion?
The logo I pick are totally opposite from each other. I'm almost positve you seen these logos yourself. I chose the Nike "Just Do It" logo because it not just about the nike brand and means so much more to me.The way I interpert it as taking a chance on life and deal with the outcome down the road. At least you can say you tried and gave it a shot. I honestly don't know why the Nike brand choose this logo but it says alot about taking risk. I think guys have adopted the Nike clothing and sneakers into their warobe because for one its more males products than females products, and for two its just a guy thing. I won't say Nike makes a fashion statment but if you are a professional athele it is a marker for status when Nike offers you endorsements. Everyone can't sign a deal with Nike so thats a positive.

I then chose the famous Snickers logo.." Hunger..... Grab A Snickers". Snickers are good when you haven't had one in awhile, but it doesn't tell it makes you fat! It trys to convince you that everytime you get hungry to just grab a snickers and your appetite suddenly disappears, but how many time throughout the day do you become hungry? Exactly so eating 3-4 candy bars a day is the amount of calories you suppose to consumer within a day, but yet you eat other meals. Thats why america is so obese today due to logos such a this...Hungry....GRAB A BAG OF GRAPES!

The site I chose was http://www.burberry.com/. I fall in love with this site ever time I go to the site. I seems a bit boring once you get to the site, but once you click on the united states tab it's magical to me. I'm really into fashion and looking a trends for the seasons and burberry always catches my eye.On the homeage the back box changes to showcase the variety of products it offers. From purses to makeu, from sneakers, to winter coats and clothes. They have things for men, women and children. They have it all...LITREALLY. The only downfall about Burberry products they can be a bit high price and some people can't afford to pay $200 for a pair of sneakers or sandals.

It target me personally because I'm obessed with the brand itself. My dad started tp purchase alot of thier pieces so what not and thats when I fell in love. And everything on the site is not that expensive. If you willing to buy a Abercrombie and Fitch polo, it's the same exact price as buying a burberry polo. I think theway they ship your things if you were to order offline is totally awesome. They gift wrap everything without a additional fee and the bags are super adorable. Or even if you were to buy from the store the staff just takes time wrapping and preparing you items. It makes you fell apprecitated for your purchases and makes you want to go again, instead of having your things thrown into so sort of delivery bag!

Blog on Chapter 3

Ok so I don't know what this activity is talking about, but I'll give it a shot. Considering the fact I don't watch The Daily Show, The Colbert Report or any news for that matter, this is going to be tough. These shows are more likely to be similar but with different host. The same viewers that tunes in for one show, probably will watch the other one if the shows was indeed similar.Young people such as myself would watch the shows if they were interested into doing so. I think the values that are trying to told are: Be aware whats going on around the world, convincing people to go green to save planet earth and so fourth.

Reading Blog #2: Hegemony

Money makes the world go around, huh? Well, I picked a $100 vs $1. People with larger bucks seem to feel more powerful than people with $1 or $5. They feel they are the most dominant in this social class society. Thats how people become unequal and mistreated. Money is the root of all evil but yet everyone wants a piece of it. It's a bit scary how money can change a person so quickly. I bet if the world didn't consists of dollar signs, everyone would be equal and considered as one instead of being divided by "class".

The Hamptons Vs Trailer Parks is a good example of Hegemony. I personally would love to stay in a gorgeous house like this one day, but who knows if I'll the the funds to pay for it. People that have 5 million dollars houses, drive 300,000 cars, own 20,00+ of jewerly automically feel superior to others. I have witnessed it on many occasions like on t.v. sitcoms and in real life situations. I'm not the type to judge someone but people that stay in trailer parks seem to have less than others. Its just a stereotype that's been put on groups of this kind many years ago. I understand that some individuals are less fortunate than others but thats no way to treat a human being. It always seem to me that people who look down on others are always the ones going bankrupt or the houses are in foreclosure or  owe the IRS millions of dollars.

I think hegemony can go all the way down to the food chains. I'm from Detroit, MI and we have chains of Happy's Pizza. I dont know if it's in other a states but it started in MI. If I was to choose a pizza to have for dinner, I'll going with Pizza Hut. I think Pizza Hut has better food than Happy's. It tatses fresh, the perfect seasonings and the crust have just enough butter on it. Happy's Pizza is flat, has very little sauce and it's just something about it that looks pretty disgusting. So in this example, Pizza Hut is better and more dominant. If you was to go the the suburbs there's no Happy's Pizza in sight, no even one. So that alone tells you what that means: It's found on the urban parts of the city only.

Research Blog

#1
Honestly, there is no real reason why I choosen the sites above. I was just looking at different subcultures that I might be looking forward to write about. As far as ideas goes, I haven't really thought about the one I'm going to research. This entire process shall take some time and thought. I say this because it's so many different subcultures out there and I don't want to pick the first one that I come across without exploring other subcultures. I feel anxious about the culture I'm going to write about because I never completed such a task. Finding subcultures, blogging, and exploring the internet for such things is all new to me.
If I had to chose a culture from the list above, my subculture would be http://hiphop.blogs.com. Its apart of my everyday life and why not talk/write about something I simply love which is music. I'm more so an R&b guru so exploring the hip hip world would be very exciting. Granted, I listen to hip hop, I don't really know the true foundation and it's struggle. I always seen VH1, BET, MTV shows about how hip hop was created and quote un quote the people who "started" hip hop, but I never really investigated the topic for myself. This shall very interesting if I reseacrh this little subculture called "Hip Hop".

So after view mutiples site, I have decided to research the subculture HIP HOP!

#3
After going to my research site http://hiphop.blogs.com/.... I just stared at it for a moment. I didn't click on the tabs or used the search box, I simply stared at the screen. I did take notice of the tabs the was avaiable upon viewing. I noticed that to the right side of the home page, it list other blogs sites which was something I really liked. Most sites want you to stick to their sites only. Just reviewing the home page, I'm a bit excited to read all the interesting articles that are posted. I think the only downfall with the site is that it's not updated very quickly. The same pics have been posted on the site since I looked at it a week ago. Other than that, I'm not complaining....HAPPY HUNTING~

#4
So after going to my website, I came to the conclusion that Hip Hop is deeper than rap music. Its a culture people live and breath. They just expressed it with a microphone. But all hip hop is not showcased in a postive light because some people abuse the history to make a record sale. I cant remember the last time I heard a rap song and the words "Bitches" and "Hoes" was absent. Hip Hop has a new meaning than it did centuries ago when it first started. That's what I really want to explore with this research blog: How Hip Hop evolve over time and what is the new meaning?

Growing up, Hip Hop was a story about a struggle within Urban communites, and took the nation by storm. It was a different type on sound that nobody even heard of. Everyone then tired to see if they had the gift to deliver such stories. Some people did and some people didnt, simple as that. It's a song by Common called "I Use to Love Her" and everyone thought he was talking about a female but when really he was expressing his love for hip hop and how he fell out of love with her. Alot of people felt disconnected with the song because from thier view Hip Hop isn't coming you fall out of love with!

#5
Once you type in the site there is only one picture on the scene and its of P.Diddy holding a old school lunch pale with the best fighter of all time Muhammad Ali on it. The picture is titles : Why talking about lunch on Twitter is good for your career. However, there are alot of written text and articles you can read up on. The way the site is broken down into is within articles. There is one article for each page and each page has a different topic thats being discussed. I think the people that visit the site are either hip hop fans or people like myself that is interested in the history and the true meaning.

#6
I think the people who created this site are representing themselves to the vistors as a story. The people we visit this site are looking at the history and reading heated topics within the Hip Hop industry. The site doesn't represent themselves in a negative image, but some on the articles might have a negative impact. That's just a article post, but it doesn't mean it's a reflection on the website. People who randomly visited the website, might finding the site a bit appealing. The pages and pages of articles might keep their attention and have their minds wondering, so the site may be appealing to them in that aspect!

#7
The content of my research blog was quite confusing at first. I thought it was only one article on the entire site and I just about to change the site. Until I started taking the site apart, thats when I relaized there was more to it than just the one post. From my views the site is not organized but thats what I love about it. There is so much information to view and click on, it;s kind of mind bogging. I haven't seen people comment on articles but that doesn't mean nobody seen them. But if reader were to respond, the freedom of speech would be honored considering Hip Hop itself is the ablity to say what you feel: postive or negative.

#13 Locate one peer reviewed journal article that you will be using in your final essay. Please post the complete and accurate citation as your post and provide a brief summary of article (but do NOT merely cut and paste the abstract--you must summarize this article in your own words). How might this article be applied to your research?

Hess, Mickey. "Is Hip Hop Dead? The Past, Present, and Future of America’s Most." (2007). Web.
The phrase I'm going to use is: Wealth and Fame should not change a person”.
In the article, the author basiclly disccussed the hip hop community and it's

authenticity. He gotten the title from a rapper named Nas that named his abulm: Hip Hop is dead. He talk's about how new rappers disrespceting what the "old skool rappers" created for hip hop.  In so many other words he feels new artists dont appreiacte the cultureand thats is why the question surfaces. I choose the article because I feel the same way. It seem like nothing good comes from hip hop anymore. All the negative images, sexual lyrics, beef within artists just gives the cutlure a bad image. I chose the  phrase "wealth and fame should not change a person" because it is true in a sense but its happens. The hip hop community has went from listening to the value of lyrics then to talking about your million dollar jewerly collection, or that fast cars you drive. It's all nonsense and pointless music.

Commodity fetishism

I picked a Iphone 4 for the topic Commodity Fetishism because it represnts something that almost everyone wants or has. It's in popular demand since the 1st generation hit the stores in 2007. I personally had an Iphone until I broke two months ago. It was very addictive considering all the cool apps I had, so then it became my fetish. It's a phone and Ipod all in one, what more could I had asked for. My only concern was the devices inside the phone that made it operate. At any given moment the screen would cut off, the phone would freeze up and it was quickly prone to the mist of water which caused water damaged. So, I believe cheap labor went into making the device and yet everyone wants one and it willing to pay $499 for it.

Binary Opposition

According to the text Binary Opposition is something between production and comsumption. So I choose a picture of babies. Having children to some people seem to be a good thing. The women seek off to find mates such as strong masculine fathers that wants to be a loving and caring father. Then males produce something they can't consume for the women. The woman then consumes and reproduce. One thing that had me stuck in the text was, consumption was associated with a feminine weakness. I really didnt under stand that.
